Item Description

When one thinks of Mexican Scorodites, typically the specimens from the El Cobre Mine or Ojuela Mine come to mind. This piece is actually labeled as coming from the state of Sonora, which is rare enough as one rarely encounters a Sonoran Scorodite. The actual locality on the label is "Trincheras", which is the Spanish word for trenches, but I can't find a listing for this locality anywhere. With that said, the piece is filled with sharp, tiny, lustrous, well-formed, steel-blue colored crystals of Scorodite on oxidized rock matrix. We photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. If you collect secondary ore minerals or minerals of Mexico, don't miss out on this attractive specimen with an odd locality designation. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7885). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
