Item Description

Scorodite is a well-known iron arsenate mineral, but there are only a few localities which are known to produce excellent specimens. The Ojuela Mine is one of the better localities for the species, and this piece is a good example featuring a few vugs lined with dozens of sharp, very lustrous, well-formed, pseudo-octahedral crystals that range in color from a soft silvery-green hue to more of a darker steel-blue in areas, and the tiny crystals on the back are nearly colorless. Very attractive under magnification.
Rare classic material and very desirable due to the fact that it is accompanied by an historic label from the legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the label has Ford's New York address, the piece dates to at least 1946-1957, so this piece is almost certainly 70 years old!
