Item Description
Please note: This specimen was labeled as coming from "Grauel" near Schneeberg, but it's almost certainly from Grauel near Schwarzenberg, which is the classic locality for Scorodite. This piece is actually from the type locality for this beloved hydrated iron arsenate. The species actually dates back over 200 years to 1818! This piece hosts features gorgeous steel blue Scorodite crystals nestled into Quartz-lined vugs in the Limonite matrix. Some of the crystals are contacted, but if you look closely under the microscope or a loupe, you can see several tiny pristine crystals. This is only the SECOND piece of Scorodite from Graul that we've had to offer in the auctions! If you collect minerals from the type locality, or important old historic German classics, you CANNOT miss out on this beautiful and impossible to find rarity. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2087). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
