Item Description

Scorodite is an arsenate known for its attractive, grey-blue color and sharp, prismatic crystals. Here, the matrix of rock has a 1.7 cm pocket (half-filled) containing Scorodites up to 5 mm. This piece is very similar to the specimens from not-too-far-away Saxony, where the actual type locality is for Scorodite. Previously in the Miller collection from the 1800’s, after which it went to James B. Cone and the Wadsworth Atheneaum, and then to the Loomis Chaffee School (this label style is known to have that history). From the large worldwide collection of historical minerals, of George Elling of New Jersey. A highly collectible and rare locality piece!
