Item Description
I first saw these specimens at the Denver Show in 2009, and they are some of the mostt attractive and highly displayable Scolecites I have seen, especially since they have a beautiful cream-beige color! I picked up several of these specimens, and some dealers had them labeled as Thomsonite, but I sent several specimens out for analysis, and all came back as either Mesolite or Scolecite, and honestly each individual crystal could contain both species, since they share such similar chemistry. The specimen itself features a few gorgeous, radiating spherical aggregates of Scolecite/Mesolite measuring up to 5.8 across which are comprising hundreds of thin, prismatic crystals which have a soft but eye-catching cream-beige color and are associated with dozens of pearly, pastel peach color Heulandite crystals and a few off-white color blades of Stilbite sitting on matrix. The Stilbite and Heulandite crystals are rather gemmy, and the overall aesthetics, balance, and arrangement is fantastic. A very worthwhile, full cabinet sized, display specimen of this new material. Keep in mind that Scolecite/Mesolite rarely have any color, so to have an attractive piece like this with color is certainly uncommon. Valued at $1500-$1800 in the inventory.
