Item Description
A hard to find specimen of the rare calcium titanium iron silicate, and member of the Garnet group, Schorlomite. This piece from one of the best known localities for the species in Morocco. This is not SCHORL (a species of Tourmaline), but I'm sure it gets is name based upon the similarity visually. This piece features fine quality, very sharp, lustrous, well-formed, jet-black dodecahedral crystals of Schorlomite measuring up to 5 mm associated with minor off-white Nepheline on matrix. Good quality and HARD to find on the market. If you collect Garnets, you have to get a piece of Schorlomite for your collection. Valued at $700. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #441). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
