Item Description
The Cryo-Genie Mine is best known for its attractive and varied Tourmalines, found in wide array of habits, styles and colors. This small cabinet sized specimen is a showy display piece featuring a solitary, well-formed, lustrous, jet-black prismatic Schorl Tourmaline measuring 6.5 cm long, associated with attractive off-white crystal groups of Albite (var Cleavelandite). The front of the piece is in great condition, but the back of the Tourmaline is contacted where it was separated from the pocket wall. A worthwhile specimen that would fit nicely into any collection of Tourmalines or a suite of San Diego County material.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
