Item Description
A good matrix example of these uncommon Schorl crystals from the Fano Mine. This piece features a a few sharp, well-formed, jet-black trigonal prisms of Schorl measuring up to 4.7, sitting on, and partially surrounded by bladed soft golden colored Muscovite matrix. The prism faces of the Schorl crystals have a reflective luster, along with the pyramidal terminations. No major damage I can find. You don't see a lot of these on the market, especially good showy matrix pieces, and they are certainly worthwhile additions to any collection of Southern California pegmatite minerals.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
