Item Description

Here we have a beautiful classic from the early 1970’s featuring a group of superb, razor-sharp, lustrous, jet-black, prismatic, lustrous Schorl Tourmaline crystals smartly protruding from a matrix composed of bladed white colorless translucent to gemmy Albite (var: Cleavelandite) and excellent, well-formed groups of golden Muscovite from Galiléia. The Schorl crystals are all undamaged, and if you look closely, you can see tiny but eye-catching pyramidal modifications on the corners of the terminations. No repairs and no damage to the Schorl crystals, and both the Albite and Muscovite are superb. There are four distinct Schorl crystals flaring out of the top of the piece, but if you flip the specimen over you can see the bases of SIX different crystals, so obviously two of the Schorls didn't grow enough to poke out of the matrix. Rarely does one encounter such fine matrix Schorl specimens with good associations like this from any Brazilian locality, and the stark contrast between the solid black Schorl and the graceful feldspar and mica make this a really attractive pegmatite specimen from this famous locality in Brazil. From the collection of Richard A. Kosnar, dating back to circa 1973, when he personally acquired it in Brazil. Valued at $1,650.
