Item Description

This is not from any contemporary mining, but dates back decades ago (the label still refers to Namibia as S.W. Africa). It's a really interesting "time capsule" specimen showing what the early Schorls looked like from this area. A pair of sharp, lustrous, jet-black, thick tabular trigonal crystals of Schorl Tourmaline measuring up to 2.2 sit on altered host rock matrix. One of the Schorls does have a contact near the base, but the other one is in good shape with only a tiny nick on one corner. If you collect Tourmalines or Namibian minerals don't miss out on this unusual piece with a rarely seen habit from Erongo. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5803). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
