Item Description

Tourmaline is one of the most popular minerals out there, and even fine quality, opaque, black Schorls are sought after these days. Schorl is well-known around the world, but it's hard to find top quality crystals from any locality today. This full sized thumbnail specimen is a wonderful and showy crystal group featuring superb quality, jet-black Schorl crystals with beautiful compressed trigonal form and glistening luster which are intergrown to create a fantastic, three-dimensional piece with excellent aesthetics. It's mostly complete, as nearly every termination is undamaged (a few crystals are even doubly-terminated), and the only real damage is on the underside. A fantastic overall display quality thumbnail that would make a great addition to a Tourmaline collection or a suite of Namibian minerals. The largest Schorl measures 2.3 cm long. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#13040). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
