Item Description

A beautiful example of these uncommon Schorl crystals from the Fano Mine. This particular piece is a sharp, well-formed, jet-black trigonal prism, free of matrix. The prism faces have a reflective luster, but the pyramidal termination has a soft matte luster. There are a few small dings near the termination, but overall the piece is in good shape. You don't see a lot of these on the market, and they are certainly worthwhile additions to any collection of Southern California pegmatite minerals. From the collection of Bill Larson of Fallbrook, California. Bill is a well-known gem and mineral dealer as well as a miner and collector. Bill is synonymous with minerals of San Diego County, and owned and operated famous mines such as the Stewart Lithia, the Tourmaline Queen, the Pala Chief and the Himalaya, producing some of the most iconic mineral specimens to come out of the area during the 1970s-1980s.
