Schorl Tourmaline (ex Bill Larson Collection)

Item Description

A notably large and very well-formed, compressed, trigonal crystal of rather lustrous, jet-black Schorl Tourmaline from Möng Long. The label mentions that the piece is a "floater", and I tend to agree as it's crystallized on both the top and underside, though there is a bit of etching, so it's not fully crystallized and complete. I'm very impressed with the almost "wet" luster on the main pyramidal faces of the termination, along with the striated prism faces as well. Very little damage, so it's not 100% pristine, but it's certainly one of the most robust and fine quality Schorl crystals that I've seen from any locality in Myanmar. Bill traveled the world for decades in search of fine gems and minerals, and was directly involved in the in-person acquisition and importation of superb specimens and stones from Myanmar (Burma).
