Item Description
RARE and important large, stout, 9.2 cm complexly terminated schorl crystal from the well-known Audrey Lynn Mine of Riverside County. The pegmatite is best known for aquamarine and smoky quartz crystals. Schorl is RARE from here, especially in this large size. The highly lustrous, well-striated jet-black trigonal crystal appears to be three intergrown parallel-growth crystals, which results in the nifty very complex pyramidal termination. Complete all-around. A trivial bit of termination edge wear, three spots of mostly out-of-sight contacting lower on the piece and one out-of-sight repair lower on the back side are noted, but certainly have only minimal impact to the overall high quality of this impressive large rarity. The repair is certainly acceptable in the context of pegmatite species. This piece is from the1990s collecting efforts by Phil Osborn. See: https://www.mindat.org/loc-55916.html for more information on the mine. Ex Bill Larson San Diego County Collection and long on display at his Pala International shop in Fallbrook. Hefty at 503 grams or 1.1 pounds. Valued at $2000. These are simply not for sale at any price and we were fortunate to get this old collection of such treasures. When they are gone...they are gone!
