Item Description
Tourmaline of ANY variety is extremely rare from any Shelby area deposit. MINDAT lists tourmaline, but there are no examples in the locality Gallery AND MINDAT does not list the Forest Hamrich Pegmatite. This is a sharp, highly lustrous, jet-black schorl crystal with modified hexagonal form and partially striated prism faces. This impressive rarity is complete all-around and has a contacted termination, lightly bruised along one edge. Ex E.W. Heinrich Collection, with his number on the base. Abe (Eberhardt) Heinrich was Professor of Geology at the University of Michigan from 1947-83, curator of the mineral collection there and was primarily interested in pegmatite and carbonatite geology and mineralogy. His extensive collection was donated to the A.E. Seaman Museum at Michigan Tech. A MUST for the locality or species collector.
