Item Description
A wonderful cabinet sized display quality specimen of Schorl from this obscure locality at Irfersgrün in Saxony. Dozens of sharp, well-formed, prismatic, striated, jet-black crystals of Schorl Tourmaline measuring up to 2.5 cm long are sitting on and partially frozen in the underlying brown host rock matrix. Sadly, the majority of the Schorls are not terminated, but this piece is all about the RARE locality. If you collect worldwide Tourmalines or minerals from Germany, I can almost guarantee that you don't have one of these in your collection. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11611). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
