Item Description

Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico has produced one of the more interesting Tourmaline discoveries, material is rarely seen but immediately recognizable. These Tourmalines often have an unusual exterior (often refered to as 'velvety') and a thin, prismatic form which grew into eye-catching "sprays". Growing on Quartz, the longest spray here is 3.1 cm. Sometimes you will see these black Tourmalines from Santa Cruz labeled as 'Schorl', and sometimes 'Dravite', with Dravite being the more rare of the species. This find was made in the 1990's, and this miniature is a very good example of the distinctive habit from Santa Cruz. Formerly in the collection of Eugene Carmichael. From the large worldwide collection of historical minerals, of George Elling of New Jersey. OLD CLASSIC material we seldom see today.
