Item Description

Schorl crystals from the Erongo Region are so distinct in their appearance with their super lustrous, stout crystals that aren't encumbered by so many vertical striations as they are so subtle making the crystals so reflective and desirable. This cluster consists of a dozen larger and several smaller Schorl crystals ranging from 0.5 to nearly 3.5 cm in length and 0.4 to 2 cm in width with all of them displaying top vitreous luster. All but a couple crystals on the backside are terminated and the largest crystal is nearly doubly terminated. Their terminations are moderately complex with a pyramidal termination showing a distinct, lustrous Y and then small-scale stepped terminations between the Y. The Schorl crystals are hosted on a sliver of tan to ivory colored Microcline-bearing pegmatite matrix. Ex. Shields and Frances Flynn collection.
