Item Description

An impressive, sculptural, 3-dimensional, diverging fan-like spray of parallel-growth, lustrous, jet-black schorl crystals on this RARE 360-degree small cabinet combination from this extinct locale in Plumas County, near the Nevada State line. The schorls reach about 5.0 cm and they are nearly entirely engulfed by tiny rosettes of pearlescent muscovite plates, adding character to this interesting rarity. Combination specimens of this quality were collected intermittently between the mid-1940 to about 1980, when the locality was considered mined out. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. RARE, rich and showy old combination material from Thompson Peak.
