Item Description

A classic large miniature / small cabinet specimen of these classic Scheelites from the famed Pingwu Mine in China which has produced the finest Scheelite crystals in the world. This piece is a sharp, well-formed, lustrous, rich golden-orange colored, pseudo-octahedral group which is partially studded by silvery-grey crystals of translucent Calcite with matte luster, and minor Muscovite on the bottom. While Calcite isn't a rare mineral worldwide, it's RARE to find it associated with Scheelite from the Pingwu Mine. The piece has wonderful color internally when backlit. For the most part, there is little damage, though a few nicks can be seen, so it's not 100% pristine, but the desirable Calcite association makes it a very worthwhile and frankly preferable piece for anybody who collects Scheelite or minerals from China. Valued $1,250.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#151 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
