Item Description

A very hard to find specimen of Scheelite on matrix from the Ortiz Mine in New Mexico. This miniature display specimen hosts a few sharp, well-formed, beautiful orange colored, dipyramidal (pseudo-octahedral) crystal of Scheelite measuring up to 5 mm sitting among semi-"rosettes" of grey Hematite on matrix. A slightly larger crystal can be see on the lower left side of the piece, but it's completely broken. There are some contacts on the piece, so it is not 100% pristine, but if you've ever wanted a good reference specimen of this elusive material, this is a great opportunity to pick one up for a good price. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10989). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
