Item Description

The famous and reclaimed Tae Hwa Mine in South Korea many years ago was one of the shining beacons for tungsten-bearing mineral specimens. It was famous for producing gorgeous Scheelite crystals (some of which show rarely seen purple hues!). This miniature sized specimen hosts a few sharp, well-formed, pseudo-octahedral (pyramidal tetragonal) crystals of purplish-brown colored Scheelite measuring up to 1.3 cm across which are associated with a few small gemmy, virtually colorless (very pale lilac) cubes of Fluorite measuring up to 3.5 mm siting on Quartz with a bit of associated Chalcopyrite and Ferberite on the underside. This particular association of Scheelite with Fluorite is RARE from this locality, as we've only seen a few of them over the years. My favorite aspect of the piece is one of the little Fluorite crystals has faces that alternate from frosted to completely "water" clear, creating a little window to see inside. If you're a fan of Scheelite, tungsten species or specifically specimens from what might be the most famous locality in South Korea, do not miss out on this beautiful and three-dimensional specimen that dates back at least 50 years. Ex Kay Robertson Collection. Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
