Scheelite with Calcite (rare combo for the locality)

Item Description

A hard to find association specimen from the famed Pingwu Mine in China. This locality is well-known for producing what I think are the best examples of the Scheelite in the world. These crystals are often very good sized with excellent orange/red color. Some of the more common associated minerals for Scheelite at this locality are Beryl, Muscovite, Albite and Quartz but this piece features rarely seen prismatic white crystals of Calcite, which I've only seen in a select few specimens from this prolific locale. The Scheelite crystals on this piece are sharp, well-formed, lutrous and show a vivid orange-red hue both on the surface and with backlighting. Very little damage to be seen, and there are a few spots where the Scheelites have been etched, so they have small cavities on the surface, giving the piece a distinctiveness and character that you don't often see in this material. Under UV light, the Scheelites fluoresce a bright blue color, and the Calcites glow with a strong red-pink hue. A showy, good quality and rare piece that would make a fine addition to any collection of worldwide Scheelites, tungsten minerals, specimens from China, or specifically a piece that would fill a spot in a collection of pieces from the Pingwu Mine.
