Scheelite with Aquamarine (unique combo!) ex Hefendehl

Item Description

This is an interesting and possibly unique association specimen from the Tae Hwa tungsten mine in Korea, now closed for almost 50 years. The piece consists of a large, purplish black, 2.3 cm on edge, sharp Scheelite crystal on a matrix of ivory colored Calcite and a single Aquamarine crystal. The big Scheelite is well formed with good luster and does exhibit a little fracturing. There are a couple of other, smaller (5 to 6 cm) Scheelite crystal adjacent to the bigger one. What sets this piece apart from other Tae Wha Scheelite pieces is the unusual association of Aquamarine. The prismatic Aqua crystal is almost completely gem clear, lustrous, measures 4.6 cm in length and has a nice termination on one end. Very unique for the locality. Ex Hefendehl collection: Kurt Hefendehl (1938-2020) was a well-known collector in the mineral world all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached a number of over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics.
