Item Description

Mineral specimens of ANY type are EXTREMELY RARE from this obscure pophyry copper mine , which started in 1946. MINDAT lists over 20 species, with NO photo examples shown. This RARE lustrous, translucent thumbnail scheelite crystal has rich golden-yellow color and classic textbook pseudo-hexagonal tetragonal form. A superb locality specimen, and gorgeous in color. Previously from the Willard Perkin collection (note the label in his box). He is generally credited as the inventor of the "Perky box" for standard thumbnails display. Ex Bill Panczner Collection and acquired in the 1960s to 1980s. The piece is from his award winning competition thumbnails. Bill was the first Curator of Earth Science at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum in 1974 and the author of the 1987 book Minerals of Mexico. It is the most thorough summary of the subject. Read about Bill in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=841. Ghostly white fluorescence. VERY RARE and excellent Mexican scheelite.
