Scheelite (RARE locality specimen)

Item Description

Here we have a notably hard to find Scheelite specimen from the lesser-known East Kounrad Mo-W deposit in the Kounrad Massif of Kazakhstan. This is the only specimen of Scheelite I can remember having to offer from this locality, and it's exactly the kind of piece you can only find in deep / comprehensive collections such as Kurt's. Several very sharp, rather lustrous, notably well-formed, pseudo-octahedral (pyramidal tetragonal) crystals of dark purplish-brown colored Scheelite measuring up to 8 mm are associated with minor translucent beige groups of what appear to be Calcite (possibly Bertrandite), sitting atop Muscovite matrix. Interestingly, the Scheelites really don't show much fluorescence under SW nor LW UV light. Very little damage, and good quality up close. If you collect tungsten minerals, this is a cool piece from an obscure locality that you're not likely to find anywhere else on the market.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#353 Ru), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
