Scheelite (RARE locality specimen)

Item Description

A notably hard to find specimen of Scheelite from the Fenomeno Mine in Baja California, Mexico. I remember seeing a handful of these about 30 years ago in a collection in California, but I can't recall seeing any others since. This piece is certainly the first one we've had to offer in the auctions from this locality. It features a sharp, well-formed, notably and unusually white colored pyramidal crystal measuring 8 mm, sitting on dark reddish colored Grossular Garnet matrix. You can actually see a few defined dodecahedral faces on the Grossulars, but it's largely contacted. The Scheelite fluoresces a glowing white-blue color under SW UV light (see video), and looking closely I can't find any real damage of note. A choice rare locality specimen for any fan of Scheelites, tungsten minerals or pieces from Mexico.
