Scheelite (RARE AZ locale!) ex Romero, Panczner & Lemanski Coll.

Item Description

A rare scheelite from Arizona, in good size, and with spectacular color, from a singular find. These are among the rarest of USA scheelites. This is a good-sized rich golden-orange, lustrous and translucent tetragonal euhedral crystal. The expressive etched front is in good shape, both sides are contacted with little damage and the back and base are attachments. Today these are considered extremely important Arizona/USA classics from this obscure extinct small W-Pb-Ag mine worked in the 1940s and 1950s. It GLOWS a fiery orange when backlit strongly. Ghostly white fluorescence. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired from Dr. Pete Megaw at Tucson in 2001. According to Chet's catalogue, the piece was formerly in Dr. Miguel Romero's fluorescent reference collection and then Bill Panczner's collection. That is AMAZING provenance! Romero was a Mexican national Senator and prominent Agriculture businessman who owned the finest collection of Mexican minerals ever assembled, with a distinct Southwest suite as well. Panczner is the author of the important book, still today's best reference, Minerals of Mexico.
