Item Description

The long defunct and historically significant Tae Hwa mine in South Korea produced some very attractive Tungsten minerals in its day. The mine has been closed since the early 1970s, but when it was operating, it was the source of some superb Scheelite and Ferberite specimens, and are still regarded as classics for their respective species. This specimen hosts many sharp, lustrous, well-formed, uniquely purplish-brown color pseudo-octahedral crystal of Scheelite measuring up to 5 mm sitting on a single stubby crystal of Quartz. The piece is complete on the display side, and is good condition overall despite a few tiny nicks here and there. It is certainly an attractive specimen from this storied locality. The piece shows excellent fluorescence as well. Ex Harold Urish Collection, who acquired the piece in 1973, right about the time the mine was abandoned. See the Mineralogical Record, Vol 9, pgs 133-136 for more info about this locality.
