Scheelite on Quartz

Item Description

The Yaogangxian Mine in China is one of the foremost specimen-producing localities in China over the last quarter century. Some of the most iconic minerals to come out of any locality in the entire country have been found at this prolific mine. Here we have a wonderful display specimen of Scheelite featuring a pair of sharp, well-formed, pseudo-octahedral crystals of a golden-brown hue measuring up to 1.5 cm across, sitting on a partial Quartz crystal that is coated by little Dolomite rhombs and a few compressed "discs" of Calcite. The Scheelites show a lovely light blue fluorescence under SW UV light. Very minor roughness on two corners of the main Scheelite crystal, otherwise it's in great condition. A lovely piece of this classic material.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#312 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
