Scheelite on Quartz

Item Description

Scheelite specimens from the Yaogangxian Mine at not necessarily uncommon, but this particular color is certainly rare. Most Scheelites you'll find from this mine are more on the brown end of the spectrum, but these crystals show a notably orange hue, closer to the color we're accustomed to seeing from the Pingwu Mine. This piece hosts a few sharp, well-formed, pseudo-octahedral crystals of orange Scheelite measuring up to 1.5 cm, sitting on well-formed, prismatic, hexagonal crystals of gemmy to translucent colorless Quartz. Most of the Scheelites are in good shape, but there is a separation scar on one edge of the largest crystal. A good show big cabinet display specimen of this classic material, with a desirable color. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#397 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
