Item Description

The famous Pingwu Mine in China is renowned for its impressive crystals of Aquamarine, Cassiterite and Scheelite. The Scheelites from this mine are most commonly seen either as loose single crystals or sitting on Muscovite matrix, but THIS piece is a rarely seen example of Scheelite on Quartz, and doubly-terminated Quartz to boot! A somewhat tabular/compressed, rich orange colored modified crystal of Scheelite measuring 1.9 cm with sharp lustrous faces is beautifully set in the center of the translucent white doubly-terminated hexagonal Quartz prism. There is a smaller secondary Scheelite crystal just off to the side for a nice accent. I can't find any major damage, and the piece displays beautifully as you can see. If you collect worldwide Scheelites, minerals from China or specifically pieces from the Pingwu Mine, this is a must-have specimen not only because it features a rarely seen doubly-terminated Quartz, but it's just a darned attractive display specimen. Like nearly all Scheelites, the crystals on this piece show a bright blue-white fluorescence under UV light. Priced at $1,500 in our inventory. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#732C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
