Item Description

The old Ortiz Mine on Cunningham Hill in Santa Fe County, New Mexico operated for the most part from 1832 to 1870, so most specimens you see on the market are quite old. The best known pieces from this locality are the attractive Scheelite specimens, which are some of most attractive examples of the species from the American Southwest. This miniature specimen hosts a sharp, well-formed, pseudo-octahedral, yellow-orange colored crystals of Scheelite measuring up to 4 mm associated with minor metallic golden Chalcopyrite on matrix. A few incomplete Scheelite crystals can be seen on the piece as well. These specimens are virtually non-existent on the market today, so don't pass up this wonderful example, as you may not see another for many years. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10988). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecor... ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
