Item Description
This is a SUPER GEMMY scheelite with incredible, top quality, top percentile luster. It is a stunning piece for the color alone, but we see a lot of scheelite these days and although they are world class, it is getting a bit blase and common in peopl'e minds. I understand this. BUT, this piece is way above the norm. The gemminess to the tip (about 2 cm on edge in that zone), and the absolutely crazy-freaky glassy luster, sets this above the common sort. The main crystal is 4 cm on edge, and complete. The piece is complete around nearly its whole periphery, and even (crudely) so on much of the bottom as well (complete, but a rough contact where it attached to matrix on that bottom face, where residual mica is still attached in places). This specimen is worth, easily I think, $4000-5000 at a fair price. It is good enough for any collection, as a superb scheelite, without breaking the bank so to speak. It is the kind of piece than can be $2500 or $7500 depending on who has it and how lucky they got in the "buy". I got very lucky, buying it in China for just under $2000 or so, dirty; and only finding out that it has such incredible luster upon cleaning it here. So I am willing to put it up for auction and let others have a chance at a deal I could not normally afford to give. For this startling glassiness and gemminess, China has produced the world's best and here you can see why. Also, I will say that it is better in person, even. As a last note, keep in mind that this is a protected region near the Wulong Panda Preserve and extensive mining is prohibited. Even the limited artisanal mining now done with hand tools, may be stopped by the government on short notice. This locality is in its heyday now, or rather was for the last few years, and it may not last. 423 grams
