Item Description
This piece has a somewhat confusing locality as I obtained from a Pakistani dealer at the Munich Show, whose label only stated Darai Paich (mostly likely Dara-i-Pech), Afghanistan. It does not resemble any Afghani (or Pakistani for that matter) Scheelite that I have seen, and it most certainly not from a pegmatite deposit, as it has a clear metamorphosed gneiss matrix, similar to Alpine material from Europe. The main Scheelite crystal (which fluoresces a bright lilac white color under SW UV light), measures 1.7 cm across, and is nearly WATER-clear! The color in indoor lighting is a soft yellow hue, which is not common for the species in my experience. The main crystal is mostly complete, although contacted on the back. If you collect minerals from this part of the world, do not miss out on this strange and beautiful GEM mineral specimen.
