Scheelite (fluorescent) on Quartz

Item Description

This is a gorgeous and fine quality Scheelite specimen from the famed Yaogangxian Mine in China. While Scheelite is not necessarily uncommon from this locality, pieces like this are not easy to find on the market, compared to a decade ago. This piece hosts a predominant, sharp, lustrous, well-formed, pseudo-octahedral crystal of rich purplish-brown colored Scheelite measuring 1.7 cm, with several other smaller Scheelites sitting on well-formed, prismatic, hexagonal crystals of gemmy to translucent colorless Quartz. Small "poker chip" habit Calcite crystals are coating a few sections of the Quartz crystals for a nice touch. When backlit, the main Scheelite crystal shows a bit of an orange hue internally. A few small dings can be seen, but overall the piece is in very good shape. A good showy small cabinet display specimen of this soon-to-be-classic material.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#686 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
