Scheelite (fine classic material)

Item Description

A beautiful, big, robust, classic, pseudo-octahedral crystal of dark reddish-brown colored Scheelite from the famed Tae Hwa Mine in South Korea, one of the premier localities for the species. This long defunct locality for many years was arguably the standard-bearer for Scheelite crystals, but they are few and far between on the market, especially in this size and quality. Not only is the top / display side of the crystal in superb condition, but the bottom is re-crystallized ("re-healed") where it separated from the pocket wall, making this very close to being a complete "floater"! I can't recall seeing many crystals that measure nearly 2 inches that are fully crystallized from this locality. With strong backlighting, a bit of internal translucency can be seen, with fiery internal hues, but the crystal is not terribly gemmy overall. Like the majority of these crystals, this one shows a brilliant blue-white fluorescence under SW UV light. Valued $1,500 for size, quality and the classic locality. The label accompanying the piece says it was personally collected by mineral, gem and mining legend, Ed Swoboda.
