Item Description

An extremely rare specimen of the iron antimony oxide Schafarzikite from the type locality in Slovakia. The piece hosts micro sub-metallic crystals of black Schafarzikite are associated with reddish-black Kermesite "needles" on matrix. We have photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. This specimen is accompanied by a classic label from rarities dealer Josef Vajdak that states this piece was from a new find (early 2000s) 80 years after the initial discovery of the species at the same locality. The piece comes to us from the collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered. Valued at $750 in the inventory.
