Item Description
A VERY hard to find group of crystallized Scapolite with Titanite from Bear Lake diggings in Ontario. I think we've only had one or two of these to offer in the past, and this piece is really good quality as it's loaded with well-formed, sharp, prismatic, very pale yellow tetragonal prisms of Scapolite growing in multiple directions to create a showy and three-dimensional display specimen. Small black "wedge"-shaped crystals of Titanite can be seen sprinkled all over the piece. The Scapolite crystals measure up to 3.2 cm long, and while they are not gem quality, they certainly pass light. The majority of the crystals are undamaged, but some of them are clearly contacted. I can't say for sure if this is Meionite or Marialite, so we're leaving it as "Scapolite", but it's certainly a very worthwhile piece of the elusive material. If you collect Scapolites or related species, or Canadian minerals, you can't afford to miss out on this rare display piece. Valued at $950. From the collection of Alfred Stevenson.
