Item Description
Sharp, well-formed, brownish-cream colored, thick prismatic crystals of "Scapolite" (no specific species was listed) associated with dark brownish-black prismatic crystals of an unknown Pyroxene species (possibly Augite?) to form a three-dimensional group. The largest Scapolite measures 3.8 cm long and the largest Pyroxene measures 2.0 cm. Very little damage on the display side, and despite the lack of the color on the piece, it's a fine specimen in terms of crystallography and overall presentation. I think it's charming, and as far as I can remember, this is the FIRST piece of this material that we've ever had to offer in the auctions. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11578). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
