This is a fantastic matrix display specimen of Scapolite (var: Wernerite) from the town Pyrites in New York. It's unquestionably the best example of this hard to find material that we've ever had to offer in the auctions. The piece features a well-formed, sharp, greenish-grey colored prismatic crystal of Scapolite (var: Wernerite) measuring 2.3 cm associated with stark orange colored massive Calcite on gneiss matrix. No damage and very showy as the piece sits and presents beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. This is an historic specimen, collected in 1938 and comes with a slew of labels. The piece comes to us from the collection of Gerry Morvell, along a label from the collection of Dr. Mark Feinglos, along with additional labels that state the piece was part of the collection of Duke University and the Manley Collection. You may never see another piece quite like this from Pyrites, and if you collect historic specimens or East Coast minerals, this is a must-have piece dating back over 80 years.
