Item Description
Wernerite is an outdated name for an intermediary member of the Scapolite group, which according to the listing on mindat.org states "covers the Meionite:Marialite range from Me:Ma 3:1 to 1:2." With that said, a lot of old time European Scapolites were labeled as Wernerite for many years, but its archaic and obsolete, so it has been phased out of the mineralogy lexicon. This small cabinet / large miniature specimen features several well-formed, sharp, prismatic, beige-grey colored crystals measuring up to 6 mm sitting on a matrix consisting of a dark greenish-black mineral (possibly Babingtonite ?). Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10031). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
