Item Description
A pair of interesting attractive, sharp, well-formed tetragonal soft golden color crystals of Scapolite (?) on matrix from Afghanistan. This piece came to us from the inventory of Herb Obodda, and was labeled with a question mark, so we don't know if it's actually Scapolite or not. There are some interesting minerals found in the marbles around Badakhshan, so this could turn out to be something less common than Scapolite. It should be noted that Scapolite itself is not a species but rather a series between Marialite and Meionite. This generic term is most often used in the gem world for both yellow and purple material, and the term "Scapolite" is often applied now to gem crystals in the mineral world. The largest crystal on this specimen measures 1.6 cm.
