Scapolite (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

This piece came labeled as coming from "Mt. Bity" (Ibity), and while Scapolite has been reported from this area, the piece could possibly be from Ankily, as I've seen very similar crystals from there in the past. A single, sharp, prismatic, striated, translucent, pale golden color crystal with a somewhat crude and partially etched termination. A nice reference piece for anybody who likes gem crystals or minerals of Madagascar. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6577). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
