Item Description
This stone is from a discovery of purple Scapolite dating back to around 2009. Purple Scapolite is much rarer than the yellow variety, but it's especially difficult to find purple "Cat's Eye" stones like this from any locality ! I've seen handful of them from Tanzania, but it's remarkably rare to find one from Afghanistan in my experience. To be correct, the names of the species of "Scapolite" are Marialite and Meionite, but the name Scapolite is almost the only thing you'll hear in the gem world. Nonetheless, this is a beautiful "oval cabochon" cut gem with a lovely purple color (with a slight silvery overtone) and a rather sharp "eye". The eye is best seen with a strong penlight, and that's what was used to photograph it. These stones are virtually impossible to find on the market, and this particular gem is valued at $397.50 high retail. Don't miss out.
