Item Description
Scapolite is not a species, but the name is often assigned to gems as it is more recognizable to most collectors. The actual species are Meionite and Marialite. Nonetheless, Scapolite is much less common in purple stones, as most gems are either yellow or colorless. Purple Scapolites are often much smaller, but there are one of the few purple gems out there beyond the more commonly known Amethyst, Spinel, Fluorite and Kunzite (which is rarely a true purple). The gem is nearly eye clean with a "Round Brillant" cut. An attractive little stone from a recent find in Tanzania.
