Item Description
A rarely seen matrix display specimen featuring multiple Scapolite crystals from the famed Slyudyanka locality next to Lake Baikal, Russia. This locality "takes its name from the Russian word for mica, reflecting the numerous mineral deposits in the area", according to the entry on Wikipedia. This piece features a few sharp, well-formed, prismatic, cream colored crystals of Scapolite (the specific species isn't known - but I would guess it's likely Meionite) measuring up to 4.7 cm long, on minor matrix. The prism faces show good reflective luster, while the terminations (which are undamaged) have more of a matte luster. Showy, aesthetic and rarely available on the market from this historic locality, best known for its wonderful gemmy blue Apatite crystals.
