Item Description
In the gem world, you'll see these stones labeled as Scapolite. I think it's important to note that Scapolite is actually not a species, but rather a group name for a few species. The name Scapolite is often assigned to gems as it is more recognizable to most collectors than the actual species of Meionite and Marialite. When it comes to gemstones, Scapolite is much less common in the purple hue, as most Scapolites are either yellow or colorless. Purple Scapolites are often much smaller, but they are one of the few purple gems out there beyond more commonly known Spinel, or Kunzite (which is rarely a true purple) and Amethyst. The gem has slight inclusions with a "Round Brilliant" cut. An attractive little stone from a discovery in the 1990s in Tanzania.
