Item Description

Sapphirine is a valid mineral/gem species, not to be confused with Sapphire, which is actually a varietal name for Corundum. Sapphirine is distinguished from Sapphire due to the fact that it is monoclinic, not hexagonal like Corundum, and it is a silicate species, rather than an oxide. Its name is derived from its similarity to the color of blue Sapphire. Typically, Sapphirine is not gem quality, it is almost always opaque, and faceted gems are rare. This "Oval" cut stone is nearly eye clean and has a lovely blue color which is not typical for the material, as many of them will have a grey overtone. This is one of the few Sapphirine gems that I have offered in the auctions in quite some time, so don't miss out on this opportunity to snag a fantastic quality rare gem for your collection.
