Item Description
A big stout Sapphire crystal from a fairly obscure locality called Embilipitiya in Sri Lanka. The piece is complete all around showing a tapered hexagonal habit with a rich reddish-brown hue. The crystal is opaque for all intents and purposes, but it's really large for Sapphire, and truly stands out as a unique and unusual example of a well-known mineral from a country that has produced a wealth of Sapphires over the centuries. No real damage that I can see with the naked eye, and the base of the crystal is not complete, but it's partially recrystallized. Specimen weight is 110.07 grams, and the fact that it measures over 2 inches in really significant. The piece comes with a label from Sacred Earth in North Carolina. Priced at $1,500 in the inventory.
